Glass/Glass Touch Panels Offer High Viewability and Durability

Kyocera’s new 4-wire resistive glass/glass touch panels feature 85% transmissivity, minimal haze, and invisible spacers. By using a top glass in place of the more conventional PET top layer Kyocera has greatly reduced the Newton Ring issue inherent with PET, and provides a touch panel with unsurpassed viewability. At the same time, using two glasses allows Kyocera to attach the top and bottom substrates with a true hermetic seal. Thus concerns about water are significantly reduced. With their -30°C~+85°C operating temperature range, scratch tolerant surface, and optional anti-reflective, anti-glare/anti-reflective, and anti-fingerprint films Kyocera glass/glass touch panels are suitable for a wide variety of industrial operating environments.

Kyocera glass/glass touch panels are available in 7 standard sizes from 3.5” to 10.4”. Custom Sizes are available up to 25”.

Kyocera’s new STN KG085WV1AA-G05 LCD Module is a Wide VGA (800 x 480 dots) black and white display featuring 250 cd/m2 brightness. The display is now in volume production.

The TCG085WV1BB-G00 is a Wide VGA TFT full color module featuring 400 cd/m2 brightness, 500:1 contrast, and 50mS response time. It is also in volume production now.

Key to the pair is that they have compatible viewing areas and bezel openings. This allows users to move from monochrome to color with minor bezel changes. Users could even offer two levels of product at the same time sharing the same chassis. In either event saving precious engineering time and money, and speeding their time to market.

Both displays are suitable for a variety of financial, office automation, or industrial control applications.

Kyocera KCG057QV1EA-G000 Replacement for Discontinued LM057QC1T01
http://americas.kyocera.com/kicc/lcd/specs/KCG057QV1EA-G000.pdf

Kyocera’s KCG057 is a “near” drop in compatible unit for the older Sharp product.  The LM057 was a copy of Kyocera’s original KCS057 product, but while Brand S focused its attention elsewhere, Kyocera updated and modernized the KCS product and introduced it as the KCG057QV1EA-G000.  Same electrical interface, same mounting hole locations.  Still all customers are advised to test a unit before committing to it.  The table below compares the two units.  The full specification for the Kyocera part can be found on our web site.

Seiko Instruments Inc. Unveils Best-in-Class Thermal Printing Mechanism

Compact, rugged, high-performance CAP9300 is ideal for kiosks, ATMs and other demanding, outdoor applications.

Seiko Instruments USA Inc., Micro Printer Division, has announced the introduction of the CAP9300, an innovative new direct thermal printer mechanism that offers a market leading performance package. A unique combination of fast print speed, wide operating temperature range, high reliability and small footprint makes this new mechanism ideal for outdoor kiosks and other challenging applications such ATMs and gasoline dispensers.

The new CAP9300 mechanism features a 3-inch paper width, highly compact dimensions of 112x50x30mm, print resolution of 8 dots/mm, and print speed up to 250 mm/s. Its operating temperature range of -20 to 60 degrees C solves a key challenge with thermal printing in terms of creating images consistently in cold environments. Reliability is specified as 150 kilometers of paper, 150 million pulses and 1 million cuts for long life and minimal maintenance. Paper stock of 60 to 150 mm in thickness can beAdvertisement
accommodated to handle receipts and technical data as well as tickets with the option of a curved or straight paper path for maximum design and output flexibility.

The CAP9300 is an extraordinary performer with very fast printing in a footprint thats significantly smaller than anything else available, said Bob Falco, director and division manager, Seiko Instruments USA Inc., Micro Printer Division. Its combination of print speed, print quality, protective casing, and compact format makes it an ideal design-in component for virtually any thermal printing application. It is especially well suited to applications with environmental challenges.

The CAP9300 is available with or without a built-in, slide-type auto cutter that provides full or partial cut. The platen can be quickly and easily removed for paper loading and maintenance. Parallel, serial or USB interfaces are available with Windows XP/2000 compatibility. Operating voltage range is 21.6 to 26.4 Vp (4.75 to 5.25 Vcc).

Following the CAP9300 will be a 2-inch CAP9200 and 4-inch CAP9400. In addition, the performance capabilities of the CAP9000 Series mechanisms will be incorporated into a series of printer subassemblies combining printer mechanism, controller board and paper holder in a self-contained unit ready for installation.

Each unit is backed by a one-year factory warranty and the SII Secure customer support commitment, which includes application engineering assistance, software development and customization, comprehensive technical documentation, customer training, and technical and service support.

Seiko Instruments Inc. offers a complete family of direct thermal printing solutions for embedded applications in paper widths of 2, 3 and 4 inches as well as a wide range of operating voltages and print speeds. PRESS RELEASE

TORONTO, CANADA Custom solutions company, CMI, announces the release of a third-party interface product for the DSC PowerSeries of security panel products. The TPI-001-OEM (TPI) allows third-parties unprecedented ability to control and access the most popular series of DSC security systems in order to better integrate their own equipment with DSC equipment.

Almost all functions within the security system can be accessed along with valuable status information. This includes normal security oriented control and status, along with HVAC and temperature sensor information. Using a simple serial-based (UART) protocol, a manufacturer can deeply integrate their equipment with the DSC PowerSeries panels in a cost effective format especially designed for manufacturers.

The TPI allows HVAC, home automation, and audio-control vendors to quickly and simply integrate with DSC systems. Vendors can rapidly expand their markets by leveraging the hundred-plus million installation base of DSC hardware worldwide.

The TPI is available in a low-cost, 1 inch by 1 inch SIM (Single Inline Module) with a standard 0.1 inch header for integration into the manufacturers hardware. Only eight (8) pins are required to integrate the TPI into a manufacturers circuit board. Communications between the TPI and the manufacturers hardware are via a TTL level standard serial interface. The TPI draws less then 25mA at 5Vdc.

CMI is sampling the TPI to advance customers now. Full availability is scheduled for May, 2004. Pricing for the TPI-001-OEM is budgeted at US$22.95 in 100 piece quantity.

Kyocera Introduces Environmentally Friendly Industrial Liquid Crystal Displays

Vancouver, WA September 28, 2004 - Kyocera announces the introduction of RoHS (The Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive-compliant liquid crystal displays (LCDs) for use in a broad range of industrial equipment and instruments.

Kyocera is sequentially starting shipments, this month, of three standard V-series LCD models that comply with the RoHS Directive: two 5.7 inch models (the KG057QV and KCG057QV) and an 8.9 inch model (KCG089H). In addition, Kyocera plans to switch all V-series LCDs to RoHS Directive-compliant products before the end of the current fiscal year which ends March 30, 2005.

The V-series STN and TFT LCDs feature an LCD screen mounted in a symmetrical frame with the width of the surrounding frame narrowed to optimize the size of the display area in relation to its external dimensions. The V-series is available in commercial mass production in four screen sizes: 4.7 inch/12 cm, 5.7 inch/14 cm, 6.2 inch/16 cm and 8.9 inch/23 cm. Kyocera is planning to launch a 7.5 inch/19cm V-series LCD and other screen sizes in the near future.

The RoHS Directive restricts the use of lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). Kyocera has embraced the industrys initiative to create RoHS Directive-compliant LCDs by revising its assembly processes and its selection and procurement of components. Of the hazardous substances designated in the RoHS Directive, lead was said to be the most difficult to eliminate due to the fact that lead-free solder requires a higher processing temperature. By using higher heat resistant materials and by adjusting the soldering conditions when mounting electronic components, Kyocera has developed a totally lead-free process that produces a product with identical properties and reliability as our conventional products containing lead solder.
